All Over The Map: Stories Behind the Names of Washington Places and Things, presented by Feliks Banel
How did your town get its name? What about your neighborhood school? Or that locally made candy bar? In this talk, get the big picture of how names were given to geographic places in Washington, as well as to iconic local brands, and how those names can reflect deeper, and sometimes challenging, meanings. In this lecture with Feliks Banel, explore how names often evolve to better connect us to place and to our neighbors.

About our Partners:
Maritime Folknet is a federal 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to preserving maritime culture and history, and encouraging people to explore and participate in that culture and history. We do this primarily through the music that highlights our boats and the people who work them, especially in the Pacific Northwest. We create programs and events that celebrate our maritime heritage, educate the public, and advocate preserving it. We collaborate with other organizations and individuals to bring these programs to the public. We are funded by memberships, public grants, and private donations. Learn more.
The Maritime Washington National Heritage Area is a non-regulatory, regionwide partnership program that strengthens, shares, and connects our state’s maritime communities and resources. We know that the peoples and organizations along Washington’s saltwater shorelines can have limited opportunity to collaborate and celebrate their vibrant water-based cultures—often leaving Washington’s maritime heritage under-appreciated. That’s why Maritime Washington partners with diverse, cross-sector organizations to connect the maritime community, protect our resources, and connect residents and visitors alike with our state’s maritime heritage.
