Partnership is Key – Developing a Successful Main Street Program

Partnership built Colville Together. Through a partnership with the City of Colville, Tri County Economic Development District (TEDD) and the Colville Chamber of Commerce, this band of downtown advocates has gone from a struggling steering committee to a vital Main Street Program in the past three years. This panel will explore how Colville Together became an organization, the value found in the Washington State Main Street Program, and the impacts that the organization has had on the community. Main Street organizations do not function in a vacuum – good partnerships are essential for good Main Street programs.

Transforming Rural Economies with the WealthWorks Approach

The WealthWorks approach to economic development aims to create sustainable, resilient, and equitable communities. Many regions around the country are succeeding in transforming economies and growing local businesses by linking local assets with market opportunities to create broad community wealth. This session will introduce the WealthWorks framework, provide examples of how the approach looks in action, and will engage the audience in simple exercises to demonstrate some of its basic principles. Be prepared to get out of your seat!

It is no secret that outdoor recreation has become a driving economic force over recent years, and 2020 further revealed our deep need to be outside and experience our natural places. Outdoor recreation has become a vital part of a resilient community and can be a driving economic factor for Main Street. This panel discussion will explore the many components to the outdoor recreation economy, including how partners such as the Colville National Forrest, Colville Mountain, and retailers such as Adventure Peddler can work together to bring focus to this local economy-building opportunity.

At the Intersection: The Role of Transportation in Community Development

This session will discuss the importance of transportation at the intersection of community development and the need of residents to get from one place to another. Transportation is interwoven with economic development, revitalization and the vitality of a community. We will be highlighting the role of transportation in short- and long-term planning, share examples of what is working across the state of Washington and beyond and explore the benefit of working in coalitions to address transportation needs in a community.
