Clark | Barnes

We create timeless buildings in urban environments. Founded in 1993, W. Scott Clark and Brenda Barnes built CLARK | BARNES as a firm with a quiet confidence, experienced in various building types, innovative site strategies, and integrating new construction with the historic fabric.

We have a passion for designing community-centric and thoughtful places that link the past and future. CLARK | BARNES values developing long-term relationships with our clients, through which we believe the best design solutions are achieved.

Over the past 17 years, our firm has successfully rehabilitated 10 buildings, that represent almost $124 million dollars in total construction project costs including five buildings located within the Pioneer Square-Skid Road National Register Historic District, three buildings located in the Seattle Chinatown Historic District/International District, one building located in the Sand Point/Naval Air Station Seattle historic district, and one building individually listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

CLARK | BARNES has received many notable awards for our Historic projects including:

  • 2017 NAIOP Redevelopment/Renovation of the Year – The Publix
  • 2017 Historic Seattle Best Rehabilitation Award – The Publix

SRG Partnership

SRG’s passion is to create great places for people.

Founded in 1972, SRG is a full-service design firm providing award-winning results from offices in Seattle and Portland. We craft idea-driven design that responds to each project’s mission, program, context, schedule and budget. Public projects are the focus of our practice and comprise the majority of our work. They offer the challenges on which we thrive: compressed budgets and schedules, demanding technical requirements and the opportunity to inspire the public’s imagination. We believe that great civic places are rooted in a deep understanding of their history and context, combined with a vision for how they will evolve in the future. We seek these important insights by listening carefully to our clients, the living stewards of our public institutions.

DM7 Design

At DM7 Design we love old buildings – and we love to help property owners love their old buildings.

As an avid preservationist and self-proclaimed old building ‘nut’, Darcy J. Mertz Krewson, principal, can assist you with all your historic preservation, restoration and adaptive reuse projects. For homeowners, businesses or institutions, Darcy can assist in making selections that are appropriate for the style and character of your unique building. She would love to help you design your dream kitchen keeping it suitable for your rare and exceptional one-of-a-kind antique home, or to convert an old factory into condos or retail spaces, or simply develop concepts and explore the feasibility of a building repurpose. Darcy will bring her over 20 years of space design and planning expertise to your project, along with a passion for all things historic.

We understand that owning and maintaining a historic building or home can be overwhelming and that is why we are dedicated to providing appropriate solutions to your historic design challenges.

So, how we can help you love – or keep loving – your old building?

“Do-No-Harm to Historic Buildings – Do not destroy anything and preserve as much as possible. Be a steward of our historic buildings and show a deep level of respect for them.”

ABC Sun Control, Inc.

ABC Sun Control, Inc. is an authorized 3M Prestige Window Film dealer in the Puget Sound since 1976. We are involved in multiple local historical projects in an effort to provide a sustainable window energy upgrade option that is a practical alternative to replacing existing glass.

3M Thinsulate Climate Control Window Film is the perfect fit for energy upgrades to historic, single-pane glass without requiring total glass replacement. Historic buildings can be enhanced by the addition of 3M Thinsulate Window Film that will improve the insulation value of a typical single pane window to match that of double-pane performance.

Our products have a neutral appearance that will not change the look of your beautiful local historic architecture. 3M Thinsulate Window Film will enhance the sustainability and comfort of your windows while providing facade protection and remaining virtually invisible. We work with local architects, interior designers, and building consultants and would love to assist you with your project.
