Beer Saves Buildings

Here at the Washington Trust, we believe that beer saves buildings. With over 425 breweries across the state, Washington has more breweries than nearly anywhere else in the country. These breweries help bring people together, serving as local gathering places and fostering the unique flavors of our communities. “Washington’s breweries, many of them small and family owned, are integral parts of their local communities,” says the Washington Beer Commission.

Many of these beloved breweries make their homes in our state’s historic buildings, attracted by the character, charm, and sense of place provided by these older spaces. And, in return, these small (or often not so small) businesses bring their historic locations back to life.

With your help, we’re launching a new effort to identify and highlight all of the amazing breweries in our state that are bringing vibrancy and community to historic buildings. Help us collect these stories by sharing your favorite local brewery located in a historic space, such as an old warehouse, garage, storefront, firehouse, or rail station! We’ll feature these hopping businesses in the coming months, partner with them on events like our Pints for Preservation happy hours, and share the full list here so you can create your own beer bucket list.
