The four neighborhood business districts supported by the Spokane Neighborhood Business District Grants in partnership with the Washington Trust and the City of Spokane, actively cultivate local economic resilience and community impact. From physical improvements to direct support for small businesses, new promotional initiatives and behind-the-scenes organizational support, every project was intentionally selected and shepherded by representatives of the district. Expect a flurry of activity throughout 2026 in these four unique districts.
Each initiative stems from district-specific strategies centered on revitalization, community, and economic impact, seeking to spend every dollar in a way that keeps community impact at the center. Community members, district leaders, and regional stakeholders continue to support these projects through a collaborative process. By balancing historic preservation with economic vitality, these investments deliver immediate impact and long-term sustainability for business owners and visitors alike!
Each district has been allocated $460,000.00 in grant funding. As of April 3, 2026, here is the approximate breakdown of overall funding for the four districts:
- Average of 77% of funding to Placemaking and Design Improvements: Enhancements to public spaces, streetscapes, district branding, and/or business facades. Think of these as (primarily) the physical projects or assets that are most visible and that you can experience in the districts.
- Average of 23% of funding to Organizational Development: Building and supporting strong and sustainable district organizations and fostering community engagement. This includes infrastructure such as staffing and additional consultant support, marketing, social media, district dues coverage, and more.
For details of each district’s approximate allocations, click on their section below.
An important note on project statuses: Initiatives range from “in development” to “fully completed.” Questions? Reach out to district contacts below for the latest updates.
