The Neighborhood Business Districts Workshop Series provides targeted, hands-on training and essential resources to stakeholders from Garland, Hillyard, North Monroe, and South Perry, recipients of the Spokane Neighborhood Business District Grants.  

Learn from area-experts and hear practical and aspirational strategies to strengthen local businesses, enhance community vibrancy, and achieve lasting district revitalization.

March 31 | Murals: Demystifying the Steps, Timelines, & Costs

Interested in bringing murals to your neighborhood? Learn specific steps, timelines, upkeep, and costs involved in adding murals and other public art to public and private spaces in your business district through the Spokane Arts implementation process. Participants will learn best practices for successful implementation and district impact.

Note: regarding public art in the four neighborhood business districts involved with this grant, we recommend business and property owners connect with their specific business district board or leadership group to discuss current and upcoming public art installations, and to collaborate on district priorities.

May 29 | How to Connect with the City, and BIDs: A Grassroots Effort

Want to learn more about City operations and how to support the sustainability of your business district? City of Spokane staff from the Office of Neighborhood Services and the Planning and Economic Development Department will present on City operations and business improvement districts (BIDs) in the city. Planning will provide an overview of the process to establish a new BID.

July 23 | Preserving Spokane: Unlocking the Value and Potential of Historic Neighborhoods

In this session, we will explore the importance and impact of historic preservation within Spokane’s neighborhood business districts. Participants will discover successful preservation projects, gain insight into the benefits of maintaining Spokane’s architectural heritage, and learn how these efforts can revitalize communities. Through real-life examples and expert guidance, we will highlight the possibilities for preservation in your own district, empowering stakeholders with the knowledge, resources, and inspiration to pursue their own preservation projects.
